The following report, secondhand but quite possibly true, comes in from one of our undercover agents:

"I'm told that Steve Winship emceed a fundraising telethon for New Hampshire public television between periods of the Dartmouth North Dakota hockey game, broadcast in these parts by public television. Winship was operating from the New Hampshire TV studio, not the Detroit arena where the game was played. I'm also told he adroitly handled some 'challenge' giving between Dartmouth classmates and pulled in all kinds of dough."

Joe Kipe, once and future saxaphonist, died April 20 in Woodland Hills, Calif., where he was in the oil business. We have no details, but a phone conversation with Alden Boyd, who played sax with Joe with the Barbary Coast, reveals that he had been ill for some time. JohnWhite, Joe's former roommate and fellow bandsman, will be doing an obituary, if not in this issue then the next.

Events recently conspired to produce a pleasant telephone reunion with Jupe Lewis, which in turn yielded some year-old news: Jupe retired last August from the United Nations Secretariat, with which he had served here and abroad since 1946. Jupe remains at the old homestead in Stamford, Conn., but is a bit evasive about what he's up to. "I'm doing a lot of filing," he said cryptically.

I can report with authority on another retirement. On June 30 Bob Harvey will secure the butts after 31 years with Changing Times. We're moving to Block Island, R. I., with a shore base at Essex, Conn., and I will be commuting occasionally to Washington for another year. The new address is up above. Any of you yachtspersons who tie up in New Harbor can find us in the phone book. We'll provide one free shower (the towel charge is very reasonable) and a free drink to tide you over until we get the cash bar open.

I hate to keep serving you up Krolik in this column, but courtesy compels notice that he bought me (and Obie Boldt '39 and Ted Gates '40) lunch the other day at Germaine's, a new Asian-cuisine restaurant just above Georgetown that opened recently to rave reviews. Dick is among the financial backers. Germaine is a Viet Nam refugee married to a Time Inc. photographer, and the story behind it all is almost as good as the food. Found out more about Dick's new assignment at the Census Bureau. He's heading the all-out p.r. effort to persuade you to fill out those forms when the 1980 head count starts.

In December a change of address notice switched Rowland Fairlee from Asbury Park, N.J., to Belmar, N.J. Then in March along came a new one asserting that he had moved again, this time to 31 River Rd., Tequesta, Fla. This may mean that Rowland sojourned in Florida long enough to have his mail forwarded, or it may mean he's gone South for good. Further information, if any, will be reported.

Chuck Reed moves from Elm Grove, Wise., to — and I quote this correctly — W-340 N-5347 Road "O", Nashotah, Wis. It sounds like he's given us the latitude and longitude but, again, more information might be forthcoming.

And with that, we come out exactly even. There is no more news. There are no more columns. Not until October, that is. And by that time the reservoir will be full again, right? You got the new address, right?
