The summer drought without class notes has paralyzed the writing arms of most of you. If it would do any good you'd hear a paraphrase of the old song, "Ten Squawks and More to Come," from your scribe.
Dave Martin, Jr. '54, writes* "Dave Martin '29, who represented Nebraska's Third District in Congress from 1960 until his retirement in 1974, has been appointed by Governor Charles Thone to the board of trustees for Nebraska state colleges. The seven-member board has jurisdiction over four colleges located at Peru, Wayne, Kearney, and Chadron. The obituaries will report George Kennedy's death after a long siege.. As a freshman Red wanted to join the band to get free trips, so, finding they had a sousaphone and no player, he volunteered. Mastering it, he went on to play the bass in the symphony orchestra and the bull fiddle and sousaphone in the Barbary Coast. The summer after senior year the Coast played a Paris hotel at the other end of the lobby from a ballroom where Paul Whiteman was playing. Paul took one look at that fiery red head popping up to do the growl in "Hold that Tiger!" and had him come do it with the- Whiteman band during the Coast's intermissions. Years later Red and I caught Paul's band at Bournehurst on Cape Cod. Paul spotted Red and jumped right off the stage and tried to have him do it again, but Red hadn't touched a horn since.
Ben Scales wrote from Garden Grove, Calif., that he was leaving his budget work for the Navy and the veterans hospital administration to tour New England this fall. He hopes to make the Yale weekend. And we hope to see him.
My old roommate, Hank Moore, writes from Stuart, Fla., where he and Gladys retired eleven years ago. Hank was president of the George W. Moore Company, which has been in the family over 100 years. Hank Jr. is now president. Hank's travels include Tokyo, the South Pacific, Australia, Bermuda, and the Bahamas, and a world cruise including the People's Republic of China. He's still golfing and inventing mechanical things.

Walt Kirkpatrick's widow Edith writes that she sees Eric and Ruth Burgess of Pottstown, Penn., frequently and closes with, "We are a happy Dartmouth family."
I've been blessed with a few trips to Hanover lately and been with trustees, deans, and administrators. Don't forget that Edith's words are more pertinent than most of the passing bits of magnified minutiae we read. As for me: Now I note with no elation That my college education Has a payoff that can only make me wince. Then, at track, I did some running. Now I see, excuse my punning, I've been running 'round in circles ever since.
