THE Harvard weekend was also a bright one for the women's field hockey team and the men's soccer team. Holly Burks and Annabelle Brainard scored goals to give the Green a 2-1 victory over the Crimson. It was the sixth triumph in nine outings for coach Mary Corrigan's nationally ranked squad. The team prepared for the season by taking a 15-day trip to Ireland, where it posted a 1-4-2 record. "We had some adjustments to make," said Corrigan, "but that was a valuable pre-season experience. First we had to get used to the gravel surface - the pitch - that the Irish play on, and second, we had a day and a half to learn international rules." The women returned to' Hanover and quickly reeled off four straight victories, downing Pennsylvania, Plymouth State, Cornell, and Keene State. Connecticut, a national and New England powerhouse, defeated Dartmouth, 2-1, at Storrs. The Green then lost to fifth-ranked New Hampshire, 2-1, and Ivy League challenger Yale, 1-0. The women returned to the winning track with victories over Middlebury and Harvard. Burks and Alison Hibbert have teamed up on five goals this season on a corner-shot combination involving a hand-stop assist by Hibbert and then a drive by Burks. It works like a holder-kicker combination in football It also requires steady nerves by Hibbert, the "holder."

Two years ago Brian Hitchcock scored the game-winning goal against Harvard. This fall he scored both goals as the Dartmouth soccer team defeated the Crimson, 2-1, on Chase Field. "Those two goals were my first of the year," said the senior cocaptain. "To score them both against Harvard was a thrill." Hitchcock credited Dave Hartzell, a sophomore forward, for setting up his first goal, which came with about 25 minutes left in the first half. "He did most of the work," said Hitchcock. "I just was in the right place to put a nice cross in the goal." Hitchcock's second goal came with less than 13 minutes left and snapped a 1-1 tie. The victory gave Dartmouth a 4-3 record at mid-season. "The Harvard game was the biggest win to date," said Hitchcock. "It gives us a 1-1 mark in the Ivy League and gives us a real shot at winning the Ivies."

With this diving catch in the end zone, his second touchdown reception in two minutes, Teevens took the game away from Harvard.

Hibbert (white shirt, left) to Burks on their patented hand-stop play netted Dartmouth s lone goal against New Hampshire.
