The Chairman's Report
Dartmouth's 67th annual Alumni Fund campaign was a smashing success! The final totals show a record $7,488,881 contributed by 26,543 alumni, parents and friends. The '81 Fund also set a national alumni annual giving participation record of 65% - up two points over last year.
Elsewhere on these pages will be found the details of this superb achievement.
This year's twelve reunion classes contributed a combined total of $3,103,246, with three classes 1956 (25th), 1931 (50th) and 1950 (30th) surpassing the halfmillion level, while the 10th reunion class of 1971 raised an astounding reunion record of $106,693!
Equally impressive is the fact that a dozen non-reunion classes raised totals of more than $100,000, led by the Class of 1946 with a record high of $181,000. The other $100,000 classes were 1933,1934, 1935,1936,1937,1944,1953, 1954, 1955, 1958 and 1962. More than half of the classes 31 in all set new year-out dollar records in the '81 Fund.
Participation remained an important part of the '81 Fund, with the first year Class of 1980 gaining an impressive 71%, tops for any first-year-out class. Leading the participation competition this year were the Classes of 1923 and 1926, which had perfect 100% alumni participation totals, while 1921, 1931 and 1935 all had 96% participation and 1915 had 92%.

The corporate matching gift program, where companies match contributions by alumni employees, continued to make significant gains, with just over 600 firms contributing a record $875,000 to match gifts by 3,517 donors.

The Alumni Fund continues to be a significant factor in the ongoing Campaign for Dartmouth, and to date the four annual Alumni Fund campaigns (1978-1981) have contributed just over $25 million to the $153.9 million CFD total achieved by June 30,1981.
This was my first year as Alumni Fund chairman, and certainly these great results are most gratifying to your Alumni Fund Committee and me. I take this opportunity to express to all Alumni Fund volunteers and to all who helped so generously with their gifts the very sincere appreciation of the College and the Alumni Fund Committee. It was truly another great year for our historic Fund and a tremendous way to welcome our new president, Dave McLaughlin '54, to office.

Alumni Fund Endowments
Many have found the establishment of a permanently endowed fund a practical and convenient method of supporting the Alumni Fund each year. This can be done through outright gifts, life income trusts, or bequests, and by stipulating that the income from such a fund is to be credited annually to the donor and to the donor's class. The number of such funds has increased considerably recently, offering a fine opportunity to perpetuate an individual's Alumni Fund giving.
