Summer is here, the class of '81 has dispersed, and this column will recess for a couple of months, giving you all time to send in news of your whereabouts and experiences and even pictures you'd like to see in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. The next column deadline is September 1, so if you send me news by that time, I'll guarantee first rights for the October issue.

The Alumni Fund is chirping along and so are some of our classmates. Chuck Waddell has left the Big Apple and Manufacturers Hanover Trust for Beverly Hills. That's what I call stepping up, if not out! Chuck has joined United Realty Investors as a vice president involved in real estate development. At last report, Jane and the kids Katy, four, and Beth, two were wrapping things up in New Jersey ready to head west. Don Glazer reported in from Newton, Mass., that on February 9 he and Ellen became parents to a baby girl, Elizabeth Meyer, interrupting 13 years of unencumbered marital bliss. Don is a partner in Ropes and Gray. In addition he mentions running (including entering the Boston Marathon) and tennis as his hobbies.

Greg McGregor has established his own law practice in Boston, specializing in environmental land use, advising both government and private companies. Concern in this area is certainly growing as evidenced by the recent addition of two lawyers to his firm. Lt. Col. JohnGarrison is stationed at the Pentagon where he is country director for Saudi Arabian affairs in the office of the assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs.

A few responses to Don Graves' newsletter questions have been received here, and it's interesting to note the number of classmates who have opted for small towns., even rural lifestyles, where, as Henry Clapper says, one can work and live "at a pace designed to permit time for my family." Henry is practicing law in Monett, Mo., and his family includes Loni, seven; Carrie, five; Lindsay, one; Nancy (who won't tell her age); and Duchess, a golden retriever), age five. Kevin Trainor has set up law practice and settled in the "middle of things I enjoy," in Idaho Falls, Idaho, (I've been there). In addition to hunting and skiing, he enjoys life with Linda and with daughters Meghan, three, and Whitney, two. Parker Davies, in addition to practicing medicine, keeps two children, one wife, one dog, five horses, and 42 cattle in Vernal, Utah. That's deja vu to me, because ten years ago I was stranded in Vernal when my motorcycle broke down. Let me tell you, Vernal, then at least, was small! But who else of us has settled in small towns? Why? Did four years of rural New Hampshire influence that in anyway? If you care to expound, I'd like hearing from you. Have a nice summer.
