Two messages were sent to the class around reunion time. One was from Mrs. Dickey thanking us for the flowers we had sent President Dickey. "Thank you so much for the magnificent flower arrangement Amos Gile brought over to the house; I immediately carried it to Dick's House. It has been beautiful in John's room and has given us great pleasure. It was a lovely thing for the 25 th reunion class to do. Sincerely, Chris Dickey."

The other message was from classmate Chris Wren, who is the New York Times's representative in the People's Republic of China. His cable read as follows: "Comrades, the East may be red but the West is green. A billion Chinese join me in proletarian best wishes for a good reunion, Wei Da Yi Jiu Wu Yi Jie Bi Yi Sheng Wan Sui. Cheers, Chris Wren."

The post-reunion period saw several classmates in the news. Bob Andrews has been appointed to the post of regional vice president in the field division of the casualty property commercial lines department at the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, Conn. Bob has been with Travelers since just two years after our graduation. He is married, has two children, and lives in West Hartford, Conn.

Ed Bessey has been named president and chief executive officer of Howmedica Inc., a Pfizer subsidiary. Howmedica is a world-wide producer of hospital products, including implants and valves. Ed has been at Pfizer for nearly 20 years, including three years during which he was executive vice president of Pfizer Europe. He lives in New Canaan, Conn., with his wife Jill and daughter Sarah.

Art Pierce has been selected as superintendent of the Bangor, Maine, schools from among over 30 applicants for the vacancy. Art has been superintendent of schools in the smaller Brewer, Maine, system. Art has been in the teaching profession since earning a graduate degree in education at Harvard.

Fred Searby has recently joined the Bendix Corporation as president of the industrial group, and is reporting to Bendix Chairman and Chief Executive Officer William Agee. He has also been elected a member of the board of directors. This is a career switch for Fred, who had been with McKinsey and Company, international management consulting firm, since graduating from Harvard Business School in 1962.

On October 16, in case this gets to you in time, there will be a class executive committee meeting at 10:00 a.m. in Reed Hall. The Harvard football game, cocktails at Burt Foster's, and dinner at the Quechee Club will follow. All classmates are invited.

I am going to conclude this month's column by passing along a tantalizing mystery. One of our classmates has changed his name to Clinton Bailey and is an Arab specialist for the Israelis. He was recently mentioned in a New York Times article on the fighting in Lebanon, where he has been reviewing the scars left by the P.L.O. occupation. I would be delighted to hear from anybody who knows his real identity.
