As I write this column we're enjoying the last smile of summer here in Boston. However, by the time you receive this issue the class of '86 will have matriculated, the Upper Valley fall foliage will be history, and the first breath of winter will have whispered across the Hanover Plain. And, I hope, many of us will have had a chance to renew acquaintances and swap stories at our mini-reunion over Harvard weekend, which was organized largely through the efforts of Joe Powers.
Another classmate who has done a tremendous job for the class and the College is Donna Ferritti. Ma Bell must love Donna because she spent an awful lot of dimes contacting '73s all over the country for the Alumni Fund. Thanks to her hard work and your generosity, our class and the College had a record-setting year.
Turning to the West, I have heard from Bob and Ginger Norton. Last spring they purchased a house in Portland, Ore., where "Snorts" is practicing medicine and teaching at the state medical school. Ginger recently completed a couple of years as one of the directors of the Campaign for Dartmouth. I know that they want to hear from their Dartmouth friends, so their new address is the following: 2285 S.W. Seymour Drive, Portland, Ore. 97201.
Farther south in Palo Alto, Jeanne Clinton was active drafting the fiscal budget for the city of Palo Alto. Jeanne lives in San Francisco and recently lectured on utilities at U.C. Berkeley. The last I heard, Jeanne was planning a trip to Alaska for this past summer.
Even farther south on the Gold Coast, in la Jolla, Calif., to be precise, I looked up my old doubles partner and co-captain, Bill KelloggAfter spending several years as a tennis pro at various California camps and resorts, Bill is now assistant manager of the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. He and his wife Tricia have two kids and a beautiful home right near the ocean Bill, I'll be thinking of you in February.
From the heartland, I learned that an old friend from Buffalo, Warren Montgomery, is a technical supervisor for telecommunications at Bell Labs in Chicago. Warren has been married for nine years to Carla Westlund who was an exchange student from Wellesley with us. Carla is currently a geology professor at Northern Illinois University.
Back east, I spoke with Bruce Foster at an Alumni Fund telethon. Bruce married Sheila Jackson on April 10, 1982, in Rollins Chapel. They now live in Ashland, Mass., and Bruce is a marketing manager for national accounts at. l.B.M.
Alexis Rodzianko now has a new job at Manufacturers Hanover in the New York area. He's specializing in East European lending. Alexis now has three children Marina, Andrea, and Elizabeth.
From the Green Mountains, I recently received word about Bob Haynes. Bob has purchased the firm of Northern Design, an architectural and construction company in Ivlontpelier, Vt. Bob's wife Brenda is teaching first and second grades in the local public school system and is pursuing her master's degree in counseling at the University of Vermont.
Across the border, Barry Brensinger has switched professions and is now an elementary school principal in Manchester, N.H.
Finally, I can't help but take up a couple of lines to announce the birth of my first child, William A. Harty. Sally and I celebrated his birth on July 4. Well, I guess that Sally did the work and I did the celebrating. In any event, he's keeping us busy and he'll be making his first appearance at a Dartmouth game this fall.
That's all the news for now. See you next month.
