One never knows where the name of a Dartmouth '45 may show up. Recently Theodore P. Swick's popped up in Business Week. Although Ted is a senior vice president of Prudential Bache Securities Inc., he was not giving advice on investments. As an experienced juror, his advice was on "how to play the waiting game called jury duty" he said to "take along junk novels."
Sometimes the postion of a name can be of considerable importance. Take, for instance, John Osborn. I recently received a notice from his law firm announcing the addition of two female associates. Also announced was a change in the name of the firm. John's name, which first popped up on the tail end of the firm's moniker in 1971, now heads the list of Osborn, Considine, Reed, Van de Vate and Burke. My count comes up with 11 partners and seven associates, often considered a lucky number combination.
My own luck has improved somewhat. The second fixator in my leg was removed in October, and before too long I should be walking close to normally. Our number three son was married (for the second and last time) in August, and number five was married in October. True to my promise to Shirley, I danced with her at the latter wedding.
Now look, you guys, if you're sick and tired of hearing of my trials and tribulations, don't write your congressman. Don't even write to Dear Abby. Write to ME. And include some news about yourself.
Dick Paul '44, left, and Jack Jouett '43, right, look not the least bit pooped as they sit on the poopdeck of Jouett's 37-foot sloop in the Virgin Islands. Dick and Bobbie Paul were on a Caribbeancruise last April when they were invited by Jack and Marge Jouett, who live in St. Thomas, forlunch at the Cowpet Yacht Club, a sail, cocktails on the Jouett veranda overlooking the harbor, and a candlelight dinner.
