What is rising, changing, resting and over 160 years old? If you said three members of the class of 1949 you've been reading my notes.

The rising '49er is Dick Stanwood, who recently became president-chief creative officer of the Chicago advertising firm, Leo Burnett U.S.A. Dick joined Burnett in 1963 after 12 years in N.Y.C. with Young and Rubicam. Prior to his promotion he had been executive vice president-creative services.

Another Y&R alumnus, who has been at the top of his field for years, is Ed Graham,a creator of Harry and Bert Piel - the "Big Guy" is changing. With an assist from Bob Alden, who told him "to call a guy," he started a radio program last November on WGCH (Greenwich, Conn.). Ed says that after interviewing several thousand people about the various products they use he decided to ask a few of them about their lives. He got some surprisingly interesting responses. Ed recalls that in school he never listened to anyone very closely, and doing so has turned out to be quite a shock.

A little of the old Bob and Ray style even creeps into his letter: "This week I'm making a tarot card reader tell his own fortune. He sees very little money in his future, which is right on target, because I didn't pay him. Next week it's a series of interviews with Sidewalk Sam, a guy who does fabulous museum replicas on sidewalks. He feels he should bring art 'outside to the people,' and in New York his first stab at that will be the Mona Lisa at the corner of 46th Street and Sixth Avenue. On Thanksgiving I interviewed some bagmen in New York non-Ivy types, if you except the University of Pennsylvania."

Ed can be heard on morning and afternoon drive time and would like to teletape an interview with Dick Hook, if Dick is back from Africa.

And, finally, resting in Kettering, Ohio, is Tom Towler, who stepped down as board chairman of Top Value Enterprises on December 31, 1982. Top Value is a subsidiary of Baldwin-United, an $8-billion diversified financial services corporation headquartered in Cincinnati. Tom will serve both corporations as a consultant and maintain offices in the Winters Bank Tower in Dayton, Ohio. Tom and Sue will continue to be active in the Dayton community, where Tom is deeply involved with the Dayton Philharmonic, the Victory Theatre, and the Art Institute.

That's it for now. Hope to see many of you at our 35th, June 13—16.

Ed Graham '49 (left), whose interviews with interesting personalities are heard daily on WGCHradio in the New York area, talks with a character somewhat less communicative than most of hissubjects. A run-down of Graham's recent activities is included in the 1949 class notes column.
