From the January 22 issue of Old Cars Weekly: "With all of the Imperial's engineering achievements, it was the body styling that was most appealing to buyers. Body styling was originally created by Ralph Roberts of LeBaron for Lincoln, but they turned it away for being just a little too advanced. Chrysler decided it had just the right amount of dash to reflect their engineering advances . . . " It is interesting that Chrysler is still using the Leßaron name for one of its models.
From the January 17 White Mountain Shopper: "Recently the Governor Adams Base Lodge at Loon Mountain was dedicated at a gala banquet celebrating the opening of Loon's second complete base facility. The spectacular building was dedicated to Loon Mountain's founder and chairman of the board,' Sherman Adams."
From a January 19 letter from Nate Whiteside: "I am pleased to hear that you have resumed your class secretary duties. We are all feeling for Bud Weymouth, who is undergoing such a difficult time. He is a most devoted classmate and a really loyal Dartmouth man.
... I have been one of the most fortunate in retaining good health, as is also Mildred. ... I am still semi-active in my 63rd year in the bank note business of which my younger son is president and doing a splendid job."
Since there is plenty of room, it might be okay for the secretary to add an item of family news. The middle of our three grandsons, a Yale music graduate, has just been accepted as a cellist in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He will join it in September after returning from his third summer playing at the Santa Fe Opera Festival. His wife, also a Yale music graduate, also plays at Santa Fe. Haden's success in Detroit comes after many auditions from Los Angeles to Baltimore.
Looking back to January 1922: "Jim Robertson has been added to the staff of football coaches for the season of 1922 and will aid Jack Cannell with backfield candidates . . . The class of 1920 is still well represented in athletics; Mel Merritt and Frank Dorney were assistants to Coach Cannell last fall, while Mel is also an assistant in the recreational department. Chick Maynard coached the freshman baseball team and Rabbit Yuill has been signed by the Clark School to coach basketball . . . EarlThomson engaged. The Reverend and Mrs. Cookman of Glendale, Calif., have announced the engagement of their daughter to Earl J. Thomson. Miss Cookman is a teacher at Whittier College."
Keep the news items coming, or we will be running mostly news of the twenties!
