Kissinger to Speak at Rockefeller Center Dedication
SEPTEMBER 1983

Former Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger will give an address on Friday, Sept. 23, at ceremonies dedicating the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for the Social Sciences. The $5.6-million center, located to the west of Baker Library, honors the late vice president and New York governor who was graduated from the College in 1930.

Kissinger, recently named by President Reagan to head a special commission on Central America, was long a close colleague of Governor Rockefeller. The Rockefeller Center will be formally dedicated in public ceremonies in the center's courtyard at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 24. Attending will be many friends of the late vice president and members of the Rockefeller family, including Nelson Rockefeller's oldest son, Rodman Rockefeller '54, who was instrumental in conceiving the center.

Fronting on Hanover's North Main Street just north of the Green, the Rocke- feller Center consists of the new Rockefel- ler Hall and old Silsby Hall. The two buildings, built of matching brick, are connected by a soaring glass-roofed forum. The center is the work of architect Lo-Yi Chan '54. On Sunday, Sept. 18, members of Governor Rockefeller's Class of 1930 will gather to dedicate the Class of 1930 Room in the center. The large meeting and classroom contains bronze plaques bearing the names of Dartmouth alumni who have served in the Congress and other key government positions.
