It was a lovely evening. A brisk breeze, full sails, a beautiful sunset, moonlight on Manhattan, and a whole boatful of Dartmouth alums! We sailed around Manhattan, caught up with old friends, and sang "Men of Dartmouth." What more could we ask for? All of this, and who arranged it, but an '82! Those of us who are in the New York City area have begun to see Glenn Gilliam's stamp on the activities available to nearby alums. Glenn is the dedicated chairman of the activities committee of the Dartmouth Alumni Club of NYC. (Actually he is cochairperson with Amy Marsh, I do believe.) Also on the ship that night was Steve Burnham, who had an expert eye on our vessel. Steve is presently a ship's broker in Manhattan. He says hi to all and invites everyone to stop by if they are in the area.

It seems that much of our class enjoyed this past summer's wonderful, wild, and wet water activities. Not only were groups of us sailing 'round Manhattan, but across the country Dave Britton dealt with the summer heat on a windsurfer on San Francisco Bay. Down the coast, in L.A. (actually in Marina del Rey), DavidParker has been spending some of his spare time (away from his job as a middle-market lender with Bank of Boston) on a windsurfer, as well. He also reports that his golf and tennis swings are improving immensely. Not a bad life, eh? David writes that he has heard from David Hamlin, who was on his way to Korea to take part in an international kayaking expedition partially sponsored by Dartmouth.

Back on terra firma, Charles Purse is filling his days employed by Citicorp Real Estate, Inc., in Chicago as a loans officer, and he is spending his evenings at North- western's J.L. Kellogg School of Management. Actually, Charles finished the M.B.A. program in August and plans to remain in Chicago for the next few years. Just beginning business school at Tuck this fall is Gary Levine. Gary has been living abroad for the past two years. The first year he worked in Banque Paribas' Paris international finance department and the second year in Merrill Lynch London's international finance department. (Dave Plekenpol was one floor away!) He planned an Interail trip around Europe this summer before hitting the Hanover Plain and business academia.

A number of our classmates are on the other side of the academic desk. HennyGraff Corell (Henny is married to Rob Corell '81) finished her master's in education program at Smith, spent this past summer directing a swimming program for three-to-nine year olds, and is now living in the Boston area. Henny is teaching math, computers, and English at the fifth- and sixth-grade level at the Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill. Charles Oberndorf is in his second year of teaching seventh-grade English and U.S. history at University School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and Keiking Lam is a science teacher in the Lower East Side pre-high school. Keiking has spent a busy few years since graduation; he spent six months working in the San Francisco senior rehabilitation center, headed east in January 1983 and spent a year as a special student at Bryn Mawr. He then worked at the Wistar Institute at UPenn, performing cancer research, until coming to NYC to begin his present teaching job. He is presently working on his application to dental school and hopes to be accepted into a program to begin in the fall of '86. ScottFleming has spent the past two years teaching grammar school in Mishawaka, Ind., and is presently looking into other possibilities for employment.

Out of the hallowed halls and into the world of business, Julie-Ann Mac Donald sends news that she is now self-employed as a sales representative in Los Angeles and is spending all of her spare time biking on the beach and seeking the best tamales in southern California. Let us know what you find, Julie! She also writes that Mary Fusco is studying clarinet in western Canada and that LisaGreeley will be married to Richard Howard (who, Julie writes, spent enough time in Hanover to qualify as an honorary alum) on October 5. Lisa is working at the Bank of New England.

OK, while I'm on the subject of matrimony, Mark Kilar married Tad Baylies '81 on June 28, 1985. The gala event was attended by Bill and Laurie (Demmer)Monafo and Guy Lister, and Leslie Goransson was maid-of-honor. (Leslie is in her second year of medical school at the University of-Vermont.) An added note with regard to Mary is that earlier this year, she was awarded the National Science Foundation's prestigious graduate fellowship for advanced study. Congrats on both counts, Mary! And the last marriage announcement of this month's column is that of Jack Raymond's marriage to Laurie Corkum, Union '84, on October 12 of this year.

I will end with one more happy, joyful, and exciting announcment. On August 4, 1985, Mitchell Andrew was born to Paceyand Sue Ringler Pet. Smiles all around and smiles to all of you! Em.
