Greetings from Atlanta! I will start with news clipped from The New York Times by a helpful '28. Andy Ebbot married a classmate from Chicago Business School, Kathleen Higgins, on September 14. The couple will live in Boston, where Andy is a financial analyst with Leggat McCall and Werner, and Kathleen is assistant treasurer of Harvard Community Health Plan.
Other late-breaking news includes the birth on September 14 of Jeremy Goldimeier. son of David and Laura Goldmeier. To make room for Jeremy's arrival, they have moved into a new home in Creve Coeur, Mo., complete with swimming pool. Laura has finished her residency and is now practicing as a gynecologist. Other baby news comes from Nate Hine, whose wife, Nellie Pennington ('83), gave birth to Calen James Hine Pennington. They are still living in the Upper Valley, hoping to build/buy soon. Nate is working for Creative Inno- vations and having a "fine old time" (he did not say what he creates). ChristineFunk Purcey also sends news of a 15-month-old son, David, born in April 1984. She and husband Bob ('77) will be living in Monroe, Conn., until June 1986, while David completes his GI (Joe?) fellowship at Bridgeport Hospital. Chris is a full-time mother and a part-time M.B.A. student at UConn. Chris and Bob recently had a visit from Mark Hartman and wife, Julie Kormornik Hartman ('80), and their son, David, who was born in April 1985.
Continuing with the medical news, University of Texas at San Antonio sends word that Nancy Denny Kellogg received her medical degree in May and will pursue a pediatrics residency at the medical center in San Antonio. Husband Dean '77 also received a medical degree and will enter the physiology Ph.D. program at San Antonio. Eric Larson finished his residency in neurology at University of Maryland Hospital Baltimore, where he was chief resident in neurology. In July, he began a one year fellowship in "EEG and Evoked Potentials (?)." After that, he would like to practice in New England. Bruce Barach writes that he and his wife, Irene, have moved to San Francisco where he is starting his residency in plastic surgery. Nancy Liebowitz is beginning her chief residency year at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in obstetrics and gynecology. She is also applying for fellowships in high-risk obstetrics after completion of her residency in June 1986.
I have also received news of five more '78 weddings. William Murphy married Sharon Souther, a fellow associate at the law firm of Cahill, Gordon and Reindel in New York City. The wedding took place in June in Oyster Bay, Long Island. RobWilkes married Elizabeth Wattles in July. Both work at Kidder, Peabody, and Company in New York, where Rob is an AVP and Elizabeth is an account executive. Grey Albans was engaged to Michael Hirschfeld in July, with a September wedding planned (and over by the time you read this). After earning a J.D. from Harvard Law, Grey joined International Paper in New York, where she is corporate attorney. Her fiance is a partner in a New York law firm. Kay McKusick sends news of her wedding in August 1984 to Matt Ralston ('75). They are living in Durham, N.C., where Kay works for the North Carolina Alternative Energy Corporation promoting alternative energy systems in order to minimize the need to build central power plants. Her husband is completing the second year of his residency in radiology at Duke. Kay also wrote of her plans to attend Kathy Maher's wedding in Boston in June.
Several people send news of recent moves. Jim Bassett and wife Ellen have decided to trade a two-bedroom condo and life at a large corporate law firm for a 17-acre farm and a 20-lawyer firm in Concord, N.H. The new firm, Orr and Reno, represents Dartmouth. Jim's farm in Canterbury, N.H., has a 200-year old farm house and a huge barn, and Jim and his wife are looking forward to having the time to enjoy it. Ellen (Dartmouth Med '82) is finishing her internal medicine residency and will join the Hitchcock Clinic in Bedford, N.H. Jim reports that he is just three miles off 1-93 and has four extra bedrooms for visiting friends who drop by. Hans Sheline and wife, Diane, are still adjusting to life in Oklahoma after years in California. However, he enjoys his work with Conoco's exploration research division. They recently attended a mini-reunion in Houston at the wedding of Mike Toll '77. Charlie Vassar and JeffReynolds were also in attendance. BillDaniel writes that he changed jobs in January, moving to a small, privately-held software company, ORACLE, where he is an account manager. Bill and Laurel now have a daughter, Emily (born June 1985), to enjoy along with their two-year-old son, Rawson.
Annie McLane sends word that DanReicher has been wooed to the nation's capital for a plum job with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). A gala going-away party was given for Dan, with Annie, Wendy Thurber, Jim Bassett,Ellen Meyer, Scott Brown, and others in attendance. Last fall Dan toured China with Robert Portman in a collapsible kayak. "We traveled as independent tourists," wrote Dan, "with no official sponsorship or tour affiliation. . . . We are, as far as we know, the first westerners to kayak in the People's Republic of China." A photograph of Dan and Rob accompanies this column.
Annie also sent news that Peter Lewitt is soon to be hitched to Mary Talbot. RaySweeney and wife Corinne gave birth to Ray Jr. this spring. Annie even included some news of herself, mentioning a house- warming party in Manchester, N.H., and plans for a biking trip to Portugal in July.
Bernie Drury sent news of his recent travels. He went on a ski trip to Colorado last winter with Fred Seligson, MarkHansen, and Ray Boniface. He also visited Ray on Memorial Day, where GregRobinson also showed up as everyone refined their beer pong skills. I am sure a good time was had by all as Greg was having a last bachelor fling before a planned marriage in June.
Finally, news from everyone's favorite green-coat pianist, Scott Axford. Scott has left Ma Bell for Harvard Divinity School, where he is starting his second year toward a Master's of Divinity degree in 1988 and a Unitarian parish ministry. Scott was elected proctor (chairman) of the divinity dorm, and he has placed a Dartmouth person on each floor. For entertainment, Scott plays organ at services and piano at parties. (No word about who keeps them tuned.)
Keep the news coming!
Dan W. "Harpo" Reicher '78 (stern) and Robert J. Portman '78 (bow) toured the waterwaysof China in a collapsible kayak for six weeks last year. They are pictured here on the LiRiver, Guangxi Province, in the south-central portion of China.
