From personal correspondence and responses to 1917 fund drive letters, your surrogate secretary has gleaned some facts for a brief column. Tommie Lynch is still gardening from her golf cart, now specializing in herbs that she plants, cultivates, and dries. The results have improved her cooking and provided potpourri for her home. The next is well worth sharing. "Miniatures are still almost a disease with me. I now have a small, two-room house that I call the Westmoreland Library. Only three of the shelves have really readable books; the others are filled with dummies that are fun to make. There is one volume, one-half inch by one-fourth inch, that has the 'Our Father' printed in seven languages. It was given to me by a lady who runs a ballet school in Monte Carlo, and it is a prized possession." Tommie misses the 1917 fall reunions and all the people who made them such fun. We remember with especial nostalgia the quartet that entertained us at every get-together - ludicrous to watch but so enjoyable to hear, with Bob Scott and Vic Smith towering over Sandy Lynch and Pat Olds.

Two letters from Lucile Towler tell of family gatherings in Florida, where both her children have now retired. She has four greatgrandchildren and hopes one of them will get to Hanover. She goes on a two-week cruise, New York to Montreal, in September, finding this kind of trip the easiest at her "young" age.

It was good to hear from Heinie Wright's widow, Florence, living in Walpole, N.H. Robin and Jodi, who used to provide their own cheering section with their father at football games, are both living in Springfield, Vt.

Bob Shaffer's daughter, Marian Malcom, writes that their granddaughter, Lisa Snyder, is in the class of '87. She is a news editor for The Dartmouth and a member of Alpha Theta fraternity. Marian' attends luncheons given by the Dartmouth Association of Northern California with her granddaughter and loves the enthusiasm generated by the Dartmouth family.

We were saddened to hear that Mrs. MottD. Brown (Frances) died in May in St. Louis, MQ. She was the mother of Mrs. Carl Holekamp '42. Mrs. William Sewall (Sally) died on May 7. Her son John is class of '42.

And finally, a letter came from MaryMcCullough, who was bitten by the Dartmouth Alumni College bug again and will be in Middle Mass wifh son Sandy and his wife, Dotty, in August. I succumbed also but will go as a day student this year with my friend Josephine Albright from Woodstock. We decided to commute and sleep in our own beds. Complete report in the fall.

Thank you for keeping in touch. Have a good summer, and if any of the '17 classmates are moved to write, it would be great to hear from them.
