Messages from a faithful few at Christmas are all that can be shared in '17 space. Two are from children of classmates and it is good to know that the bonds are strong enough to impel them to write. John and Nell Sewall sent a picture of his family taken at the marriage of Bill Sewall's grandson Jonathan to Paula Clemens in October. Both bride and groom are Dartmouth 'Bos, and the bride is finishing a neurology residency at Mary Hitchcock. She will be working at the Mayo Clinic next summer. Dr. Walters, please take note.
Marion Shaffer Malcolm wrote from California with special mention of our meeting at the 70th Reunion. She and her family were happy additions at our dinner Saturday night. Mott Brown's daughter, Eleanor Shev, still medical director of Pacific T & T but with retirement on the horizon.
A letter from Tommie Lynch enclosed a verse written by Sandy so pertinent that it must be preserved.
"Will Eleazar be Reformed?" We had the still North in our hearts The hill winds knew our names, But when the blue-jeaned damosels Start pacing through our lanes, Mayhap, some ultra necking skills And not New England rum Will be installed and worshiped as Our whole curriculum.
Ralph Lynch '17
Mary McCulloch is her usual busy self and in December was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her second great-grandchild. The family will be next-door neighbors as Mary's granddaughter built on land adjacent to Mary's house in Barrington. A telephone call to Anita Scott in Woodbridge, Conn., during Christmas holidays told of a happy season with grandchildren and great-grands visiting over Christmas. We are the fortunate ones who can share the holidays with three other generations.
It is with sadness that I report the death of Adele Duhrssen Thielscher on October 6, 1987, in Palm Beach, Fla. Adele passed away peacefully after a long illness. She leaves her husband, Karl, and two sons, Karl Jr. '52 and David '54. The Thielschers and the Lynches attended many reunions, big and small, and Adele's gay participation always made them more enjoyable.
Belated good wishes to all in 1988 from your once-a-year correspondent.
