Tuck expansion to begin
OCTOBER • 1986

After getting the green light from the Dartmouth Trustees at their spring meeting, the Tuck School is in the first stage of a campaign to raise $8-million to finance needed expansion and renovation. Plans call for a new building connecting Tuck Hall and Murdough Center, new classrooms, and more dorm facilities and office space. Construction is scheduled to begin next summer, according to Dean of the Tuck School Colin Blaydon, with completion by the fall of 1988. This may be delayed, however, by the lengthy design process and the Trustees' requirement that the funds must be secured before construction can begin.

Tuck School's expansion during the past two years has created a tight space problem. The entering class has been increased from 145 to 160 students, and the faculty has grown from 32 to 42 positions. The firstyear core curriculum of marketing, accounting, and finance which was taught in two sections of 70 to 75 students is now taught in three sections of 50 to 55. Some study space has been sacrificed to provide faculty offices, and student housing is also a problem. Most second-year students now must live off-campus, and it is hoped that with the new construction at least one-quarter of them can be offered dormitory rooms.
