This is the first edition of class notes of the spring, even though they are being written on the first day of February. Also, this is one of the last times you will be subject to this particular style of reporting, since Joe Davis, bless his soul, takes over at reunion. On with the news.
First, errata: Bill Roberts notes that the grandfather of his son, James, is James Roberts '46. John Sharer and his wife, Kathy, are godparents. Bill also mentioned that he had lunch at a Korean restaurant with Brooke McCann, so that Brooke could begin to prepare his alimentry tract for the rigors of his and Connie's trip to Korea for the next Olympics. A likely story ...
I got a note from Meredith Harbur, Miles's wife, who wrote to report on three of our more prolific classmates. It seems that between them, Miles, PeteJohnson, and Neal Duffett have fathered six (!) "men-to-be" of Dartmouth. Mere- dith reports that wives and now sons are getting used to the occasions on which these three gather, and there would be no surprise if the new generation soon cor- rects their fathers' stories as memories fade, or rather, as memories improve the facts to make a more "tellable" tale. Miles is director of service operation at Hobart Corporation in Troy, Ohio; Peter is corpo- rate counsel for Planning Research Corpo- ration in Washington, D.C.; and.Neal is prosecuting attorney for Portland, Maine.
From New York City comes word from Galen Kirkland, who has embarked on a political career in the Big Apple. Last fall he ran for a seat in the New York State Senate from the 29th senatorial district in Manhattan and narrowly lost to a candidate favored by the political establishment. Galen says that despite the outcome he was encouraged by the response to his run for office, and he will try again this fall. He has been endorsed by The Village Voice, The Westsider, and TheCitizen's Union, and he encourages anyone who is interested to contact him care of his election committee at 329 W. 88th St., New York, NY 10024.
That's about it for this month. Remember our reunion in June, and if you have been saving any news, please send it to me rather than holding it for Joe, since he is a rookie and should break in the hard way.
