Douglas McCreary Greenwood '66, editor of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine since 1983, has announced his resignation effective June 30. He is stepping down to pursue personal writing projects.
Greenwood emphasized that his departure is not due to disagreements with the administration. "President McLaughlin and I have had a very good relationship," he said. "While the president did not see eye to eye with everything I ran, he respected my rights as editor. I've got some writing projects I've been working on for a while now, and it's time to go. Anyway, my real instincts lie in writing; I've spent top much time on the publishing side over the last three years."
The search for Greenwood's successor will be undertaken by the Magazine's Editorial Board, with a new editor expected on board by the first of the year. In the interim, Dana Cook Grossman, associate editor, will be responsible for the editorial aspects of the Magazine, while business and production affairs will be handled by general manager Susan Berry-Langsten. Both have been on the staff since 1979. In addition, Charlie Widmayer '30, Magazine editor from 1943 to 1972, will serve as consulting editor during the interim period.
