Ninety-five percent of your '33 class officers will be spending Class Officers Weekend (May 2-4) in Hanover. It is remarkable that so many of them attend, even from so far. Just dedicated! This month's notes are written well before that meeting. Any report of mine will appear in Bob Fox's newsletter, rather than having you wait until the September magazine.
Regardless, I give you notice that PageWorthington will, in all probability, be elected president of the Association of Class Presidents at that May meeting. Page's abilities are recognized by his fellow presidents, his classmates, and also by his wife, Margaret. More on the Worthingtons: They took a trip around the gulf of Mexico, sponsored by "Dartmouth Abroad." It was on the Sea Cloud, former yacht of E.F. Hutton. In that environment, they listened to lectures by Dartmouth professors Marysa Navarro and Noel Perrin. Among the 56 passengers aboard, mostly alumni, were Dr. RalphAlexander and his fiancee, Muriel Camitta. Our classmates didn't do much of the available scuba-diving. They saw Mr. Halley's comet, at some distance, visited Mayan ruins, and lolled on deck. Ralph, a radiologist in Rochester, N.Y., occasionally sees Rolie Stevens, M.D., also based in Rochester.
Jack and Dot Manchester have been "house-sitting" the home of Hank andGinnie McKee in Sanibel, Fla., while the McKees were on a cruise to Rio. While at Sanibel, they had dinner with Joe andRuth Searing and visited with Waxy andMadge Wright and Wes and Jan Beattie.
Nearly all of that Florida contingent attended a Dartmouth Club luncheon in Sarasota on March 19. Our good friend Nancy Elliott '43A was actively present. Ted Leland, director of athletics, spoke well and to a good reception, my reporter tells me. Present were Wes and Jan Beattie, Sam and Maddy Cunningham, Dickand Kay Goldthwait, Waxy and MadgeWright, and Jack Manchester.
That Sarasota Dartmouth Club is the strongest Ivy League Club in the area. It is unique in having biweekly luncheons, with 50 or so present during the peak season. It tapers off to about 20 in the summer doldrums.
You will have this column to read in midsummer, just as the Alumni Fund closes shop. Mannie Sprague has said he expects '33 will reach its goal of $110,000. The class of '33 has not failed him yet, though sometimes it gives him worries with late entries. Mannie says he has recently talked to Bob T. Cox. Bob and Shirley are going to a Deerfield Academy reunion this summer and will visit Jeffand Bea Davis in the course of the trip.
Ken Weeman says he and Dorothy may visit the Rugens in Rossmoor, "now that they have other friends also in that community." Jan and I are working on "extra added attractions" so that you can visit us without having to wait for other friends to move here. So far, we offer a Dodgem, scenic railway, and croquet.
