Jim Freedman's and Buddy Teevens's first Dartmouth Night is now history. What a thrill it was to participate in such an historic occasion! In connection with Alumni Council business I anticipate seeing four Dartmouth football games this fall. Along with it, I have had the opportunity to meet many of you in Hanover, Boston, and New York. This is certainly one of the most enjoyable aspects of this position.
Continuing your year-long acquaintance with the organization of the Council, this month we will highlight the function and activities of two more standing committees (as prepared by their chairmen).
The Committee on Class Organization is concerned with the effectiveness and organization of class activities. This committee also monitors the College's support and planning of these activities. This is of particular importance because each individual alumnus/a maintains a unique relationship with the College that is formed to varying degrees through one's class.
Recently the Alumni Council approved a resolution presented by the Committee on Class Organization that has resulted in an expansion of the Fund Raising Information System (FRIS), the computerized alumni data base. The changes are for use by class and club officers in facilitating organization, planning reunions and other events, collecting dues, etc. This data base will be available to authorized class officers by hard copy, floppy disk, or through a telecommunication network.
Other projects over the past year have included changes in how the Class of the Year is selected; the creation of reunion questionnaires for all participating alumni, spouses, and children, and also for nonparticipating alumni to be used starting June 1988; and the revision of the "Manual for Class Presidents."
The members of the Committee on Class Organization for the year 1987-88 are; Goffrey S. Edelson '80, Chairman Moe Frankel '34 George H. Colton '35 Norbert Hofman '36 Robert W. MacMillen '40 Edward A. The Committee on Regional Organization is composed of councilors from various parts of the country, most of whom have had extensive experience in the affairs of their own local alumni clubs. It is responsible for exchanging information with the Club Officers Association, supporting the growth and development of the Dartmouth Club system, and reporting to the Council and the College on the current status of that system.
The committee encourages and oversees such programs as club scholarships, book awards, career advising, and job development. It assists in the development and establishment of new clubs, presenting them to the Council for approval, while also working closely with clubs needing assistance to assure their survival and success.
Since alumni clubs, can play a pivotal role in the identification and enrollment of outstanding high school students, the committee also monitors club enrollment activities. Finally, the committee interests itself in the continuing education activities of the alumni clubs and is currently joining with the Bequests & Trusts, Class Organization, and Alumni Continuing Education Committees to seek ways to improve the relationship of senior alumni, their wives, and widows to the College and its current activities. The members of the 1987-88 Committee on Regional Organization are: Norman Olsen Jr. '56, Chairman Norbert Hofman '36 Henry M. Sanders '51 Mark H. Smoller '53 Robert J. Bagdasarian '55 Richard M.
