"There is no enthusiasm behind the Big Green . . . it's sort of like the Big Green what?" said Nancy Caldwell '87. Caldwell is a member of a newly formed Student Assembly committee charged with proposing a new school symbol. A request by the group Native Americans at Dartmouth (NAD) prompted the SA action. NAD members felt that the Big Green was too weak a mascot for students to rally around and that this weakness was keeping the old Indian symbol alive. The committee is offering a $1OO prize for the suggestion that is eventually adopted. Students will choose their favorite in a special election set for spring. The Indian won't be on the ballot, but the Big Green will.
