Three of our classmates died within 50 days of each other this past winter/spring.
Ernie (Gus) Giusti suffered a heart seizure in a New York taxi cab February 21 en route to his home in Arlington, Va, from a vacation.
Bill Sweeney, the affable Greenfield, Mass., Ford dealer, was stricken on the ski slopes of Loon Mountain, N.H., on March 27. And Dan O'Connor died of cancer April 8 in a Kalamazoo, Mich., hospital.
Fritz Geller reports from Keene, N.H., that he and John Hyde attended Bill Sweeney's funeral March 31 in Turners Falls, Mass. Fritz says there may have been other '43s at the service that he and John missed.
Fritz says he and Nance skied 51 days during the season. And he reports that John Hyde, appraiser-turned-carpenter, is refurbishing his place in North Woodstock, N.H.
Eddie O'Brien and I had lunch together in Boston in mid-April. He disclosed that he's going to be a manager of the Chanticleer Restaurant on Nantucket Island this summer. Eddie says it's a fancy place, so if you come, "bring money." Eddie worked summers on Nantucket during his youth.
A check with George Graham in Hanover discloses that he's collecting ideas and arranging sites for the various activities for the class's 45th reunion next year.
George also reports that he and Nancy Elliott recently visited Tufts University's School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton, Mass. George owns a horse, among other animals, and Nancy is a longtime dog enthusiast.
Class treasurer Bob Clark has returned to Keene, N.H., from Florida and expects to make Class Officers' Weekend on May 1 in Hanover. Class President Fred Lent will be there, and so will Fred Stockwell and Eddie O'Brien.
While in Hanover recently, I spotted Paul and Ruth Young on the street. We stopped for a chat. They were right on the verge of opening their summer place on Lake Winnipesaukee.
The March Alumni Magazine search for 13 "missing" '43s produced the addresses of three of them.
John Altorfer is an investment counselor in Chicago with the firm of Altorfer, Podesta and Woolard. Johh's whereabouts were reported by Joe Mathewson '55, who recently was involved in a merger with John's firm.
Bob Purdy was found in Sunnyvale, Calif., when someone from the Alumni Records Office in Hanover called Bob's last known address and got his new one.
Charlie Rueckert is in Pompano Beach, Fla., the source of his new address is a mystery. It was on a handwritten note in his file.
