Dartmouth's high honor, the Alumni Award, was presented to several distinguished alumni over the last year.
Harold Copeland Ripley '29 was cited for his devotion as an enrollment worker, assistant class agent, class executive committee member, class secretary, member of the Alumni Council, fund-raiser par excellence, member of the Cape Cod Dartmouth Club Executive Committee, and incomparable host for the Club's summer meeting. Ripley's career was with the Bell System, the Reliable Electric Company, and Whitney Blake Company. He has been involved with numerous civic organizations over the years.
Richard Morris Henry '31, hailing from a long line of Dartmouth alumni, always kept Dartmouth in mind while spending much of his career with Citibank in cities throughout Asia. He was a College interviewer in Hong Kong and the Philippines and helped found the Dartmouth Club of Manila. Since 1971 he has been a member of the Sarasota Club, and he has served as its vice president and president. He was a member of the Campaign for Dartmouth Leadership Gifts Committee and the Alumni Council, 1983-86. Henry has been active in various educational and church groups around the globe.
Stanley Harris Feldberg '46, a current Trustee of the Dartmouth/Hitchcock Medical Center, has served the undergraduate college as well as the graduate schools. He has been on the Board of Overseers of Tuck School and Dartmouth Medical School. Tuck's Feldberg Library is testimony to his devotion to the school. He served on two campaign major gifts committees, co-chaired the '46 class giving committee and the 25th reunion class gift committee, and was on the Alumni Council, 1975—78. A founder of the Zayre Corporation, he helped build it into an organization with over 1,000 stores and outlets. He has been a director, chairman, and trustee of many institutions, including Brandeis University and Beth Israel Hospital, and has received the Man of the Year and Brotherhood Awards from the Greater Boston Association for Retarded Citizens and the National Conference of Christians and Jews.
William Louis Randall '52 has served Dartmouth as a longtime enrollment worker, president of the Wisconsin Dartmouth Club, class agent, member of the Campaign for Dartmouth Leadership Committee, and member of the Alumni Council, 1977-81, of which he was vice president and president. Cited as a Renaissance man, Randall, a lawyer, banker, and trustee, has been involved in a variety of community organizations in Milwaukee, Wis., and is an athlete, educator, amateur photographer, and lover of theater and music.
Donald Carpenter Goss '53 was cited for his service as class newsletter editor, editor of his class's 25th reunion yearbook, member of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine Editorial Board, member of the Alumni Council, and charter member of the Dartmouth Alumni Band. He has enhanced his special love, music, by donating equipment and establishing an endowment fund for the Dartmouth Band. He also established the Conover trophy at the Dartmouth Corinthian Yacht Club. His career has been in sales and advertising and he has been active in numerous community and church positions in Connecticut and New York City.
Emerson Bradford Houck '56 has served Dartmouth as a class agent, trophy-winning head agent, district enrollment director, founder and secretary of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Australia, president of the Dartmouth Club of Indianapolis, Tuck Executive in Residence, and member of the Alumni Council, 1967-71. Houck's career has been with Eli Lilly & Company. He is a Volvo League senior circuit tennis player, amateur photographer, hospital director and president, college trustee, and has been an active participant in numerous organizations.
Joel B. Portugal '58,the recipient of all three of the College's prestigious fund-raising awards, has been a class agent, head agent, class executive committee and class president, an enrollment officer, club officer, member and president of the Alumni Council, and chairman of the 1984-86 Alumni Fund Campaigns. Portugal's career has been in corporate communication and design. He is a trustee of Beth Israel Hospital in New York City and a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts.
Peter Charles Schwartz '60 was cited for his service as a class agent, reunion committee member, enrollment worker, career advisor, vice president and president of the Hartford Dartmouth Club, member of the Strong Committee, chair of the Council Committee on Regional Organization, and president of the Alumni Council. An attorney, Schwartz is a master of a U.S. District Court. In Hartford, Conn., he has served as a board member of the Campfire Girls Council, chairman of the Hartford Jewish Federation Fund, and has been active in Republican politics.
THE ROBERT LEWIS KAISER 1939 ENDOWMENT FUND
At the May 2 meeting of the Dartmouth Association of Class Bequest Chairmen, association chairman Frank K. Ettari '46 announced the establishment of the Robert Lewis Kaiser 1939 Endowment Fund in honor of Kaiser's retirement from his position as Senior Advisor of Bequests and Trusts at the College after 22 years of service. At Kaiser's request, annual income from the fund will be used for the undergraduate scholarship program.
