Leading off with an honest "You know what this is—it's when we call to pester alums for money," Roseanne Wood '87 combined a low-pitched voice, a distinctive Boston accent, and a willingness to talk frankly about the College to become the top student fund-raiser in this year's Alumni Fund telethon. She worked the phones eight out of nine nights, raising $26,272 from 242 pledges.

Wood, who is older than most undergraduates (she will be 28 when she completes her coursework next June), saw the telethon as an opportunity to thank the College and particularly the alumnus who encouraged her to attend, Eliot Robinson '53. "The next time you see a student you think is special that you'd like to encourage and you have a question about whether the opportunity to come to Dartmouth is appreciated," she said, "I can assure you that it is and that it's never forgotten."

Arthurian celebration: "True-hearted lords and ladies" of Casque and Gauntlet led the grand march into dinner during the 100th anniversary celebration of the senior society in May. Left to right are Kim Chaplin '88, Bob Victor 'BB (in armor), and Lisa Thomas '88. Five hundred members and guests were in attendance for the weekend. C&G was formed by members of the class of 1887. The society's rituals are based on the legend of King Arthur and the Holy Grail.
