Dick Brooks was the subject of a feature article in the Middletown (Conn.) Press which told the tale of a recent commission for one of his paintings that Brooksy received. It had to do with a friend who unearthed the remains of a shipbuilding yard under his newly purchased house in Middle Haddam, Conn. He wanted a painting of it, so Brooksy has been busy doing extensive research to bring the early scene back to life and to his canvas.
Bob Davidson is hard at work putting together the 50-year book for the class. It seems to me that the deadline for rendering your bio and a recent picture has just about run its course, although he might consider a late entry if you were to submit it promptly upon reading this.
Mike Ellis keeps his contacts current. He and Betty Lou spent three days with Johnand Jane Hess on their way north this past June, dropped in on John and LouiseSteele and George Darr in Washington, dined with Henry and Natalie Glovsky in Beverly, Mass., and departed the port of Boston for a two-week sojourn in Holland and France in mid-July. Mike regretted not having been able to touch base with Bruceand Cusi Learned on their travels.
Dick Storrs, who is planning on making a trip East from California to take part in our 50th this coming June, recounts a bit ,of history. "My father, '07, grew up in Hanover and retired just before his 50th Reunion in 1957. He commented that as a boy in Hanover, the 15- year classes looked to him like old men, and he could hardly accept being old enough to be at his 50th. He had a great time and actually assembled and wrote up the Class Book." Dick is finally retired and beds down at 3154 Brookdale Rd., Studio City, CA 91604, though we're told he still finds his way to St. Vincent's Hospital on occasion.
