35 th Reunion! It seems incredible that we are approaching that milestone and probably a great many more as our collective age nears 60. Yet, the reunion date has been set, June 13-15, 1989, and the committee under Dick Cahn's leadership is hard at work.
Bernie Sudikoff, Jack' Zimmerman, A1 Collins, Wally Ashnault, Tony Frank, John Kennedy, Father Ed Boyle, Dick Fleming, Dave Siegal, Fred Hitt, and Fred Carleton are among those helping out. We shall now concentrate on the classmates serving on this committee who have not been profiled.
Fred Hitt, a lawyer in Cheshire, Conn., has a practice that he terms "very general." He will look after our meals. Following Dartmouth, he fulfilled his military obligation with a two-year stint in the Marine Corps before entering law school at the University of Connecticut. Typical of many lawyers who have a very general practice in our smaller towns, Fred is greatly involved in and around his community. He is broadly supportive of the charities, his prep school, Hopkins, and his College. He organized a group to build and operate an indoor hockey rink, which financially was a drain but afforded gratification from following the young players who went on to play college hockey. Now he's developing a property with ten homes. He is well known to the Wetlands Commission and the Planning and Zoning Board as lawyer and developer. Divorced and now remarried to Elaine, he has three offspring. Son Toby was Dartmouth '83, captain of squash and now a lawyer. Younger daughter, Robin '86, joined an executive search firm in Florida. Oldest daughter Mary graduated from Ithaca College, earned a master's degree, and is a speech pathologist. Spouse Elaine teaches second grade at a Waterbury school.
Fred Carleton resides north of Hanover in Etna. He will be coordinating and decorating our banquet sites. Fred had a series of jobs in the computer business including principal in his own company. However, before our 25th Reunion, Fred moved from Greenwich, Conn., to the Hanover area, having purchased a $2 million steel fabricating and building supplies company in Lebanon. Having the best of both worlds he sold the business in 1984 but served as its president. Northern New England is a growth area and Fred and his company have enjoyed six-times business growth. Shortly after moving, Fred contracted multiple sclerosis, which came on slowly so it was not diagnosed correctly until 1980. The disease affects his balance and mobility and slows him down slightly. He still has found the time and energy to be president of United Way, volunteer in Republican politics, and develop real estate. Spouse Molly, who at one time worked in the business, is now a practicing astrologer. Her practice is focused on assisting trouble clients to understand their problems and potential. Fred and Molly have a daughter, Meg, who graduated from Colgate, and a son, Ted, who is entering his junior year at Dartmouth.
