With little news to report from the hinterlands, a quick recap from Hanover is probably in order. Despite his involvement in George Bush's campaign, Bill Cahill pulled out the stops and the recalcitrant givers. We can all be proud of our performance in 1988 as we set a record for our "year out." We also improved our participation percentage, which is a welcome change from some previous lackluster years. As you all probably know by now, this school year will recognize our 15 th Reunion. For you higher mathematicians, this is Dartmouth math. Do not be concerned; you actually graduated 14 years ago. I hope that at this time next year we can state that we set a record for a 15th Reunion class as well. In any event, be sure to start clearing the decks for next summer's reunion.
Tim Dreher really did not want me to write about his visit to Connecticut in August, but too bad. Tim is now lawyering in Albuquerque. When asked what kind of legal work he is principally involved in, he said he does a little bit of everything, but that he has a couple of clients he is trying his best to keep out of bankruptcy. There are undoubtedly a few of us who could put Tim to work. The embarrassing part of the visit was that he agreed to go on a midnight sail with Pete Castle.
Most people like to sail when the sun is up. Not Pete and Tim. They obviously were reliving some memorable Dartmouth evening, because they set off at 9:30 p.m. for a ten-hour sail. Their only company was an unsuspecting sunfish, a few kamikaze freighters, and a case of beer. They did make it safely, and Tim was last seen preparing for a trip to see Matt and Meg Dwyer. I'll have to follow up and see if maybe they all drove Tim back to Albuquerque that night. See you at reunion and maybe I'll have a few notes between now and then.
