Since last June another of our classmates has moved to the Big Apple, or at least close. Lon Cross has been assigned as an economics instructor at West Point. He and Wilma relocated from Philadelphia, where Lon was doing time at Wharton. Apparently he is putting that education to good use. The best part of the conversation was his invitation for us to come join them at the Army-Dartmouth hockey game. We do accept those kinds of invitations, folks.

Word has arrived that Don Drakeman has been elected corporate vice president and general counsel of Essex Chemical Corporation, a producer of specialty chemical products. Some guys never really break their ties with the old alma mater. In addition to overseeing the corporation's legal affairs, Don serves as president of Medarex, Inc., a health-care biotechnology joint venture formed by Essex Chemical and Dartmouth. Don and his wife, Lisa, now reside in Princeton, N.J.

I was able to confirm over the telephone that Kel Seliger has indeed married. I did not want to take the newspaper's word for it. After all, Kel, as some of you may recall, was one of the most eligible bachelors in our class. Kel says he was just being patient. Nancy must be quite some gal, even if she hasn't seen a hockey game before. Kel and Nancy will be attempting a northern run in the fall for a Big Green ballgame and some Bruins hockey.

For those of you who remember spring parties on the porch out the back of your fraternity house, complete with fiddles, banjos, and bass, you will also remember Cam Jones. A recent article in the BostonGlobe featured Cam prominently and the company for which he is director of research and development. New England Digital, headquartered in Hanover, is the developer and manufacturer of the Synclavier, an all-in-one, tapeless recording studio attached to a keyboard and a computer memory. Sounds a touch more complicated than a fiddle. Stevie Wonder, Pat Metheny, Quincy Jones, and Sesame Street are among the users of this fancy equipment. Don't stay in that research lab too long, Cam, I hate to think what might come out.

In another note from academe, CraigWilliamson has been promoted to associate professor of biology and granted tenure at Lehigh University. Craig, never satisfied with narrow fields of vision, is currently researching population and community ecology, evolution of predator-prey interactions, selective feeding and life history strategies, and the ecology of fresh water zooplankton. Craig, give us a break; how did you find time to have a family? We should all be so ambitious.

Until next time
