The class of 1961 banners were unfurled for the Dartmouth Night Torchlight Parade, at a pre-Harvard-game lunch on the new elevated plaza between Fayerweather and South Fayerweather halls, at the DOC House on Occom Pond, and wherever they made sense.

A substantial delegation of 1961s made it back for mini-reunion. More about the social events in a moment. First, highlights of our nearly two-hour class meeting in Dartmouth Hall:

Our 50th birthday party the weekend of May 5-7, 1989, in Washington is moving toward reality. Save the date. We're looking for a museum or club that can provide an unusual setting for our main event, a dinner dance on Saturday night. Once that's settled, we'll build the rest of the schedule, possibly including a daytime or Friday evening cruise on the Potomac. We're hoping for at least 200 folks. Even those of you who are 48 or 47 should watch the rest of us cross the great divide.

And it's not too soon to start thinking of our 30th Reunion in 1990, this time with the classes of 1959 and 1960, folks we haven't seen in a good while.

Art Kelton has graciously agreed to be head agent again, after Bill Shure had to step down. Most of the key chairs for the 1989 campaign are already in place, with Gerry Kaminsky and Ron Boss taking on leadership gifts, Art Johnson handling the telethons, Pete Palin the fraternities, and A1 Orschel the regional campaign and the lawyers.

Class president Vic Rich talked about our two new class projects—support of student social life on Fayerweather row, in return for the use of the facility for major minireunions, and support of a new program to get faculty to our communities right after admissions decisions to help nail down prospects.

There also was an extended discussion of our major class project, the 1961 fellows program, and how it is perceived by faculty, and about needed improvements in the process of notifying sons and daughters of Dartmouth that they have been rejected for admission to the College. Details of these discussions will be in minutes that I will send via the class newsletter.

The Friday night parade was one of the largest in memory. Vic Rich carried our class placard, while mini-reunion chairman Dave Prewitt and I carried the class banner. More than 10,000 gathered in front of Dartmouth Hall to hear Ron Boss (and a few others) speak.

Mini-reunion resumed at Saturday breakfast as several dozen of us gathered at the Sunset. After the 9:30 a.m. class meeting, we had hotdogs and hamburgers and drinks at Fayerweather.

It was a great way to get together before the game. We'll do it again.

The highlight of the Saturday evening dinner at the DOC house was a presentation of gag cards to a number of classmates including Dave and Joan Prewitt, Bob andLinda Rosier, Jerry and Jackie Kaminsky,Ron Boss, Ron Wybranowski, HankEberhardt, Bruce Forester, GladysPicket, and Mike Murphy and his friend Helene Fox.

Among those also spotted at the dinner or elsewhere during the weekend were RonPicket, Robert and Judith Daly, ConniePersels and his new wife Maria, Tom andKarla Goodridge, Laura and Ralph Barton, Skip and Nancy Johnson, MargeBoss, Joan Wybranowski, Laurie Eberhardt, Don and Linda Baker, John andGinny Wilhelm, Steve Bradish and LindaFurberg, Tony Wight, John Edwards,Mort and Susan Lynn, Bob and BethFuller, Dick and Prudence Spencer, Ivarand Carol Jozus, and Charlie and KrisChapman.
