Our heartiest congratulations go halfway around the world to Ekamol Kiriwat of Bangkok, Thailand! Thanks to a recent letter from Cliff Groen, we learn that Ekamol will leave his directorship of Bank of Thailand soon to assume the position of alternate executive director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at the IMF's headquarters in Washington, D.C. An economics major at Dartmouth and recipient of a Harvard M.B.A.,Ekamol has been directing Bank of Thailand's supervision and examination department for several years and has helped shape major business and economic policies for Thailand. Ekamol and his wife, a medical doctor and currently a university professor of medicine, will move to Washington this fall. Ekamol and Cliff enjoyed good company and Thai cooking at their recent get-together in Bangkok.
Professor Peter Thompson, now teaching at Cornell College in lowa, wrote not long ago to class secretary John Pilling. In recounting his exploits of this past summer, Peter notes, "I missed the big reunion, opting for a long-awaited chance to visit Yellowstone and the Northwest. As a geology professor, I felt I owed the experience to my students as well as to myself. Then my wife, Thelma, and I were back in Vermont, mapping geology around Camels Hump for the state survey." John and family reside in Mount Vernon, lowa.
Happy Holidays to all!
