Ross Welch, Kenilworth, Ill., still maintains his Chicago law office in its 57th year, but with Mary found time last summer to vacation in Turkey. In Istanbul they stayed with the mother of their son-in-law, and then drove through southern Turkey during a heat wave with the temperature over 100 degrees.
Dick Sagendorph wrote: "At 84 I have moved in with my 108-year-old mother, for which I claim a class record. Trying to keep a huge Victorian house and barn in Spencer, Mass., in a reasonable state of repair is somewhat overwhelming, but I am still able to enjoy it all."
Skipper Smith, Suffield, Conn., wrote: "I shoot skeet, take pictures, tune my XKE Jaguar, and tell people how to sail their boats." Midge is in a wheelchair, but chipper and full of mischief.
During 1987 Hank and Jane Parker, Winnetka, Ill., traveled coast to coast. In July they drove to their native New England, and in October during two weeks in California they watched a grandson play high school football and then played a little family mixed tennis with their daughter and granddaughter.
Chet and Elizabeth Morrison report a quiet life in Marblehead, Mass. Since retirement in 1982 Chet no longer endures the Boston & Maine commuter train to North Station, Boston.
Norm and Lucy Shellman, Santa Fe, N.M., accept the inevitable "80s" with their "mild consent" while recalling happy Hanover days.
Howie Kolb, Chicago, Ill., told of having a stroke in June of 1986 that affected his right arm and right leg. He now writes very well with his left hand, and can navigate with a cane. Otherwise all is well, and he and Julie celebrated their 55th anniversary last July.
When Wad Woods is not playing tournament tennis he is very civic-minded in his native Portsmouth, N.H. Twice a week he delivers "meals on wheels" to shut-ins, in summer he spends one afternoon a week in the city information booth, he's secretary and a director of Chase Home for Children, makes regular visits to six different nursing homes, and is active in Rotary Club, Masons, and church men's club.
