Boy! Do I like to get letters like the following! Dave Saxton writes, "In early November, Susan and I visited Bill Monahan and his wife, Pam, and daughter Sencia at their home outside Makawao in Maui, Hawaii. (Bill also has a son and daughter in California and two grandchildren.) What a beautiful spot! With Haleakala, a dormant volcano, rising above them to over 10,000 feet, their ranch home on a pineapple plantation looks down from 1,500 feet to the Pacific. Bill radiates an affection for the islands where he has spent most of his life. He devotes much of his time to the Maui Economic Board and, as an international consultant, much of his attention is on establishing new technical agricultural programs for third-world nations.

"Having just heard the news of Dartmouth's loss to Yale, I was heartened to walk into Bill's home and see a dusty football on top of a bookcase: 'Dartmouth 7, Yale 0/ read the game ball. Those were the days! I tried to talk Bill into returning as tackle for just one more year, as he looks in the same tip-top shape and ready to mix it up again. He is currently bow-man in one of Maui's best outrigger racing canoes. It's a tough pace to follow.

"Our getting together marked .35 years since seeing each other in June, 1952, at a bombed out Korean railhead when serving in the marines. That was not a good summer. It was very special to see Bill again.

"Before leaving Hawaii, we had dinner with Kisuk Cheung '53 and his wife, Kyoung Hi, at their home in Honolulu. Kisuk, in his position as chief engineer for the U.S. Corps of Engineers/Pacific, was more informative on many of the developments in the region. It was also evident that Kisuk stays in close contact with Dartmouth: Hawaii is really not so far from Hanover . . . in spirit."

As previously noted, Bill and Pam Mon- ahan have marvelous bed-and-breakfast accommodations at their island home. Best to call ahead: 808/572-7207.

Dave and Susan Saxton, when not winging out to Hawaii, are settled in York, Maine, at their home called "Mainstay," 12 Hawthorne Lane. For a guy from New Jersey, he sure has become salty New England, ayuh, ayuh.

Frank Smallwood will be conducting one of the Dartmouth Alumni College Abroad trips advertised so appealingly in those brochures we get, this one to the British Isles in May. Should any of you take any of these trips, please consider yourself our foreign correspondent to the class.

Jack Giegerich reports that he and Carole Mack spent an evening with Buck and Mary Scott, Barry and Elsa Spiegel, and Don Dahl when they heard Dick Halloran speak at a World Affairs Council forum in Philadelphia on "The American Military: Are we Getting Our Money's Worth?" Jack says that Dick's knowledge of his subject is "encyclopedic." Of the Spiegels, he noted that "they have a racehorse and were on their way to the Meadowlands to watch him perform."

In talking to Col. Chet Cotter (Ret.) last fall at the home of- Dave and Babs Hall, I learned that Ted Glaser, hearing Chet's voice for the first time in 35 years at our last reunion, greeted him by saying, "How are you, Chester? You must be a general by now." As Chet observes, "Amazing!"

Jack Gannon has a firm hand on the company wallet in his new position as controller at Buxton, Inc., in Agawam, Mass. As his wife, Terry, has two toy stores on the Massachusetts South Shore (Mattapoisett and Falmouth), he is commuting home on weekends.

We have firm dates for two of our next mini-reunions: Winter Weekend in Hanover, February 19-21; and Dartmouth Night/ Harvard Game, October 14-16. Make plans now! Keep in touch.
