The weekend of Dartmouth Night and the Yale game, Clark and Happy Griffiths persuaded the delicatessen owner in West Lebanon's new Powerhouse Mall to close the restaurant Saturday evening and dedicate it to serving us all you could eat of great roast beef, sinful desserts, and other temptations. Among the well-fed and contented group were Bob Burton, Rod and Carol DuBois, Dick and Lois Mann, Herb and LauraRoskind, and a bunch of other frequently mentioned '57s.
Bill and Ann Edgerton recently invited nearby classmates to their home on Long Island Sound in Darien, Conn. After a superb dinner, Duncan and Anne Barnes,Adam and Gittan Block, Dick and SueBurch, George and Thomasine Kregos, and Tom and Shirley Schwarz were treated to a demonstration of many of Bill's antique mechanical musical instruments.
Mai Clarke is vice commodore of the American Yacht Club, on the race committee of the New York Yacht Club, and captain and racer of 37' Bootlegger and 36' Diogenes. Just to make sure he's had a full day after running an investment advisory firm in New York, Doc co-designed and sells a one-man frostbite dinghy. Used for racing in frigid winter weather, the boat is self-bailing and self-rescuing. Doc does the final assembly and fitting-out himself, using fiberglass hulls built by nephews in Maine, masts from England, and sails made in Connecticut. The 60th boat in the series was recently launched.
Larry Elliott spent 15 years in the air force, principally as a navigator in B-52s, serving tours in Thailand, Okinawa, Vietnam, Japan, most of the Pacific, and then SAC headquarters in Omaha. Now he owns a real estate office with a staff of 11 women in Lake of Pines, Calif. Larry, wife Ann, and their two kids live on the golf course and revel in the gorgeous weather of Sierra Nevada gold rush country northeast of Sacramento.
Walt Prindle lives in Dallas and runs his own textile importing and sales business. Wife Maureen, a professional artist with many commissions to her credit, came one day to help out in the office and stayed on to become exec VP. Walt's sister Naomi is married to Phil Lippincott; and their daughter Kerri is an '88 at Dartmouth. Phil, Naomi, Maureen, and Walt make an annual foray to Bermuda where last year Walt used his motorbike to break a few ribs.
Not to be outdone, Michigan consultant Dick Lyman said he once used a Bermuda motorbike to sideswipe a car with his thumb. That was during a honeymoon with wife Genie ... after raising five kids. Dick also recounted that a number of summers ago, while looking for one of his boys at Camp Hayo-Went-Ta, he found a camper all alone in the woods. The boy confided that he'd much rather be back home in Wyoming, Ohio, playing golf at the country club. Dick replied that he knew only one person in that town: T-Bear Spetnagel. "Hey," said the kid, "that's my dad!"
