March 27 was the date when the Dartmouth Glee Club gave an excellent performance in Scotch Plains under the auspices of the Tri-County Dartmouth Club of New Jersey. It also served to give an introduction to Dartmouth to some 75 high school students from this area.
Kirby Fowler '56 was the chairman for this concert whose receipts will go to establish a Club scholarship fund. He was given valuable assistance by Mo Monahan '45 who organized a group of "hard sell" telephone workers and by Clint Haight '60 who found bunks for the Glee Clubbers when they were in town. Ed Hobbie '59, who just passed his New Jersey bar exam and became a member of the Chamberlin law firm in Hillside, took care of publicity.
Dick Sameth '59 saw the fruits of his labor in response of parents and boys who numbered over 150 at a March meeting promoting enrollment at Hanover in the fall. This has been an important project of the Club because we believe that a number of promising boys here have missed seeing Dartmouth as we know it and possibly selected other colleges. This gave an opportunity for prospective students to meet undergraduates home for spring vacation.
Bob Hagc '35, Director of the Office of Financial Aid, gave the boys answers to many questions which local guidance officers and college publications cannot give. The film, "Dartmouth Today," wound up the program with some of the lighter aspects of life in Hanover.
The Club welcomes Frank O'Halloran '49,Merrill Taylor '52, and Tom Davies '62 to our area and hope they will attend our spring dance, May 21 at the Plainfield Country Club. Reservations- for this social event can be made by calling the secretary at AN 3-6290.
