Dartmouth's Phi Beta Kappa chapter, the nation's fourth oldest, celebrated its bicentennial and initiated 23 members of the Class of 1988.
• The Thayer School of Engineering is assembling a solar-powered racing car to enter in the 1988 Tour de Sol this June in Switzerland. The project team asks that alumni interested in contributing to the project financially or technically contact Paul Sheff at the Thayer School.
• The Dickey Endowment has been awarded $300,000 by the John D. and Catherine T. Mac Arthur Foundation to establish a 15-member working group that will identify and suggest solutions to international Arctic issues.
• Steve Calvert '68 has been named the director of Continuing Education at the College.
• The Peace Corps has honored Dartmouth's Tucker Foundation with a Leadership for Peace Award. The foundation was cited for a pilot program that placed Dartmouth students as interns in the Peace Corps. Also honored at the ceremony was former U.S. Senator Paul Tsongas '62.
