Joanne Walker Bond, daughter of our late classmate, Bill Walker, sent a photo of the 1987 Christmas present the family gave Bill, 1988 New Hampshire license plate DART31. She wrote that "pride in Dartmouth was such an integral part of his full and happy life." She also said her mother, Bill's widow, was in a nursing home in Manchester, N.H.
Joe Merriam writes that he continues to serve a few clients through his former firm Cresap, McCormack and Paget and that he feels he is one of the lucky ones in the class to still have a professional activity taking him to his old office a few days a week. He also wrote that he was in Hanover last August, seeing Hood for the first time. Then, with his Dartmouth '70 son and daughter-in-law, who live in northern Vermont, he visited Hanover again over the Christmas holidays. He also wrote that he'd seen Art and Jean Boardman two years ago at a wedding in New Jersey. I'd certainly like to hear from the rest of you with such professional activity not a small number I suspect.
Ralph Wardle's widow, Mary, wrote that although Ralph loved Dartmouth, they never got back for class reunions which always came at a time when Ralph was busiest. But they did manage to visit Hanover in the summer, in fact last summer.
Vern Welsh sent me a copy of his letter to the administration of the College asking for its affirmation or denial of statements made in Professor Hart's article in the March Alumni Magazine. I hope that Vern will share with the class the reply to his cogent request. In these stressful times the occupants of the Hanover hot seats must ponder Lenin's advice: "If you seek tranquillity, the twentieth century is not for you." Also perhaps Von Moltke's disregarding Von Schlieffen's order: "Keep the right wing strong."
Ed Picken wrote that the Troy (N.Y.) High School class of 1938 has him scheduled as a speaker at its 50th reunion this fall. Bernie Boyle had a similar honor from the Phillips Academy class of 1938.
How about classmates residing nearby getting tickets for the Princeton game November 19 in the class section?
