Women's Lacrosse Takes ECAC

For the first time in Dartmouth's history, the Green women's lacrosse team won the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. The team finished the regular season with an 8-7 overall record and just missed sharing the Ivy title after a loss to Harvard. The team might have received an NCAA tournament invitation had it not fallen far behind powerhouse Penn State, which topped the Green 13-5.

When the ECAC offered a tournament bid, Dartmouth Coach Josie Harper jumped at the chance to take her young (three seniors) team to postseason competition. The Green responded with two remarkable victories, dropping Richmond 22-5 and then edging host Massachusetts 11-10 to win the title.

"The ECAC tournament gave us a chance to regroup and show that we were capable of playing top-level lacrosse," Harper said. "Having played a difficult schedule and having 17 players return, we're anxiously awaiting a chance in 1989 to reap the fruits of our labor."
