A high point of September was a call to GeneDavis which led to a long talk with Hal Hirsch. We talked easily about the cancers that recently took Fran Ripley and made Hal give up his great work for Dartmouth's Alumni College of the Northwest.

Hal is grateful for the College's sending great professors to carry his continuing education efforts to Portland. His faith in Dartmouth keeps him from giving in to misinformation and misgivings that are compounded by his distance from Hanover. I enjoyed telling him of the personal warmth of Jim and Sheba Freedman and my faith that their talents and love of their fellow man will make the Freedman Dartmouth great.

We want our College to stop pandering to oversensitive people who flaunt and cherish their problems. We want her to work to give them a new sense of humor, in the larger sense, and to get on with her teaching.

I wish I could hear from each '29er who voted to "send a message" in the trustee election. Your message should be heard, but you need to know when the facts differ from the creations of publicity seekers.

Dr. Tibby Thibodeau and Phoebe will be greatly missed at our mini reunion while he fights health problems of his own. Dickand Mary Burke now have a living arrangement that lets Dick be with her daytimes in spite of his paralysis. How important it is to have the gift of acceptance at our time of life.

With what effete effrontery do we Hold our Creator to our own poor bounds. Fear not to pray. His word is sure to be Beyond the limits of mere mortal sounds.
