W. N. DeWitt recently addressed the Newcomen Society of the U.S. at a meeting in Bedford, N.H. Rink is currently serving as chairman of the New Hampshire Bankers' Association and is chairman and CEO of Bank East Corp. The Newcomen Society promotes study and research in the field of business history.

Joe Kabat received an award from the Daniel Webster Council of the Boy Scouts on America meeting in Manchester, N.H., for his distinguished service to youth. The citation was read by Dartmouth Professor William Slesnick, an earlier winner.

At the fall executive committee meeting we heard a presentation on the fraternity and sorority situation from Rob Eleveld '88, the son of Bob Eleveld. Sharing his personal observations, Rob Eleveld made the point that the administration proposal to postpone rush until sophomore spring will fatally weaken the system, especially since many sophomores are off-campus that quarter. From here, it seems obvious that with or without fraternities and sororities, Dartmouth needs a social system that is comprehensive and inclusive and makes a positive contribution to student life. It looks like things are about to change in Hanover.

Bill Hartley was applauded by all for his work on the Dartmouth Today video magazine. It has been widely used by recruiters and interviewers. Our class has provided seed money for the project. Sally Prescott advises that several other schools have requested tapes for evaluation of Dartmouth's program.

Prodigious newsletter editor John Murphy received the expected kudos, catcalls, and jibes for his publications. Treasurer John Otis called for fiscal sanity as he faces inflated postage expenditures.

Peter Herman discussed plans for a 1958-sponsored resident scholar program. John Graf demonstrated a deft touch conducting his first meeting as class president.

Lona and I enjoyed our visit to Hanover immensely. School spirit was high, the football team improving, and the foliage fantastic. Make plans now to attend Dartmouth Night next year. Dinner will again be at the Lyme Inn, a lovely spot enjoyed by all. Mark your 1989 calendar for Saturday, October 14. Dartmouth plays Yale.
