Ron Green, the John Phillips Professor of Religion, likens research to "flexing one's intellectual muscles." Students in his classes become engaged in the mental exercise—Green often shares his scholarship on ethics m his classroom presentations. In fact, the Ivy- educated professor (Brown and Harvard) is currently writing a textbook on business ethics. Green, who started at Dartmouth in 1969, notes that the flip side of the research classroom relationship is that students frequently suggest new scholarly topics. He says the best teachers often go unrecognized by their current charges, who may not fully realize what they've learned at the end of a term. "A great teacher," Green maintains, "is one who has made a difference in our lives."
Ron Green sometimes gets research ideas from students in his classes.
