Summer Science Institute
APRIL 1968

In cooperation with the National Science Foundation, Dartmouth this summer will hold a four-week institute to advance the training of elementary-school science teachers. Increased funds from NSF will enable the College to extend the program's coverage from the Hanover area to 35 school districts in New Hampshire and Vermont.

The institute is designed for teachers with limited or no experience with new science materials. One week each will be devoted to physics, chemistry, biology, and earth sciences. During the academic year 1968-69 the follow-up phase of the institute will include eight monthly fullday workshops at Dartmouth and ten visits by the program supervisor to the teachers' classrooms.

A similar institute for high school history teachers, under the National Defense Education Act, will also be held at Dartmouth this summer for the fourth successive year.
