This is Eleazar Wheelock before he met the press. Commissioned by the Trustees, Joseph Steward painted the portrait 13 years after the Reverend Wheelock died; the artist may have worked from a miniature, but a Parson Weld is known to have posed as well. The painting now hangs in the Hood Museum.
