The 1936 News Well has certainly gone dry since our most successful midsummer lobster Fest at Phyl England's in Freeport, Maine. You '36ers must be doing your own thing and keeping it very quiet, as I have received no notes or phone calls except one from Dean Nicholson confirming that he completed the course of the Falmouth Road Race in August. I did receive a newspaper clipping from John Slasttery '38 informing me of the death, July 26 in Groveland, Calif., of E.Bertram Pike. Bert spent his entire business life in the construction field and is survived by his wife, Jo, two sons, and two daughters.
The D.C.C. of Cape Cod kicked off the fall season on September 25, and their annual golf outing was held at the Cummaquid Golf Club on October 18. I wasn't able to participate this year as I was recouping from eye surgery performed on October 9.
Paul Guibord Bill Macurda and FrankCurtis put their heads together for our fall mini, October 26-27, in conjunction with the Harvard game. Coming as late in the season as it did, I probably won't be able to report on this affair until the February 1991 issue of DAM. By that time you probably will have received more definitive publicity from Joe Cunningham and Barry Sullivan
So what to do to fill up your idle hours? Last November I put out a bridge problem. The response was surprising 16 replies from '36ers, and 37 from other classes (the latest from Chatham, Mass., late in August). Here's one for 1990 from one of Mr. Sheinwold's columns:
To a conservative Scotsman it is a crime to throw away good tricks, but to you serious bridge buffs the answer is routine. I'll see you in February meanwhile have a series of Happy Holidays.
