The black flies have spawned, invading our garden just at peak planting time. Only a lust for fresh corn brings perseverence. Lilacs blooming, grosbeaks migrating, the swimming hole filling up, baseball on the (Norwich) green, schoors out (for our kids little respite for Mom and Dad.), berry-picking soon to come, see you in September. Summer's here, and welcome.
Curious, we looked up how many classmates lived in the Upper Valley. Surprised we discovered nearly 50. Impressed, we tried to invite everyone over late in April for a cookout. Partially successful, MarkFarnham, Bambi and Sandy Wood, SueYoung, Dave Haraway, SteveMcAllister, Jim Forcier, Roger Ulrich, and Derika Hermann joined us on a surprising 90° day in April. Spouses and children added critical spice to the mix (most soups need something besides Green). Lizand Richard Epstein Kadin were in the vicinity, nearly fished, but slipped the hook (next time for sure!).
So Fai Wu was one of those we missed. She was featured recently in the Valley News for a puppet show presented on the (Dartmouth) Green June 4, in remembrance of the events in Tiananmen Square a year ago.
Rouses: Harry Wilson, former counsel on product liability for Procter & Gamble joined the Richmond (Va.) firm of McGuire, Woods, Battle, Boothe as a senior associate, remaining in product liability law. Michelle Valensi Stacy is now VP marketing for Gillette's North American Stationery Products Division. Sandy Wood of Advest, Inc., received an "Outstanding Broker Award" from Registered Representative magazine, one of ten honored nationwide Brian Deevy was appointed president and chief operating officer of Daniels and Associates in Denver, the brokerage and investment banking unit of Daniels Communications, specializing in "cable and mobile financial services." (From the press release, this seems to mean sales and financing of cable TV and mobile communications companies.)
Thad Seymour sent an upbeat note from Naperville, I11. Nathaniel joined brother Thad 4 in January. Father Thad left academe for b-school and Northwestern, and now works with Pansophic Systems, a vendor of IBM mainframe and midrange soft-His Wife, Kate Glockner (Holyoke '79), has pioneered alternative career paths at Quaker Oats" (in my Barrington hometown?) "as a part-time brand manager. She and young Thad appeared on the cover of Business Week as part of a feature article on the controversial 'Mommy Track.' Appearances on Nightline and The Phil Donahue Show followed quickly." Thad closed, saying all the attention hasn't gone to Kate's head, and his eldest son "remains blissfully unaware."
