Now it can be told, but you can see why we suppressed the events of February 1953 what with two Trustees involved and reputations at stake. To sketch in the details, Bill Breed and Dave Chamberlain '52, and Bob Douglass bought the big green Theta Delt bus from the White River Junction Bus Lines in 1951, and Bob and I carried on in the fall of '52.
Douglass was our driver, in full uniform with visored cap and white gloves, on our trip to Bradforcf Junior College. Among the travelers on this ill-fated voyage were John Rosenwald and Bill Conway '52, John Corcoran, Jay Hague, and Jay Culp. There must have been 20 of us. If you were on that trip, let me know so accuracy can be preserved.
At Canaan on Route 4, the police pulled us over, citing us for improper registration. "But officer, this is a two-door Ford sedan! One door in the front (Wshhhh! ) and one door in the back (Wshhhh !)." This argument did not fly and the old bus was put out to pasture where it retired as a chicken coop. The trip to Bradford proceeded with
cars and reinforcements from Hanover and a good time was had by all. Dean McDonald was not entirely amused and graduation was not far off. Juage Stone of the Tuck faculty told us the Canaan court was run by a "hanging judge" and we were able to get the trial moved to Enfield. In response to the invitation, funds came in from Holyoke, Smith, Vassar, and Skidmore from people apparently eager for more bus visits.
Douglass began his legal career by representing himself, and though he didn't prevail, the fine was pretty well covered by contributions. Rosenwald had threatened to buy the police force if necessary and have the officer fired, and to make good on this went into the investment business. Say, John, with this Greyhound bankruptcy, do you think there might be some buses for sale?

Developing special programs like bar coding and pre-sorting, he's been there since '71. Tom is active in master's swimming, a national program with handicapping for all ages. He's sixth in the U.S. in his group and recently swam two miles in the Pan Pacific Games in Hawaii.
