I'm starting this column with a reminder: pay your class dues soon, or you won't be reading this magazine much longer. Simply put, this fine publication isn't cheap to produce, and in a bad economy, advertising is the first thing to suffer. Ergo, all alumni must pick up a bigger part of the mag's tab, including us young whipper-snappers. So fire off your check to class treasurer BillKeating, c/o Keating & Associates, Suite 104, Baltimore, MD 21204. Remember, too, that this money goes into our class treasury, not the Alumni Fund (but while you're cutting checks, why not send them one, too?). Not to sound threatening, but if you don't pay, you don't read the magazine, and we're sharing a wheel of gouda cheese at our Fifth Reunion.

On to more fun stuff. Christy Gilmartin writes that she's fled Manhattan and now works for a publishing firm in Connecticut and she is doing a lot of writing. "I love hearing birds instead of sirens," Christy said.

In other Christy-supplied news, SteveTurner is working in Boston and living with John Replogle; Elena Barr is in Virginia writing a novel; Robin Joy is in Melbourne, Australia, on a Rotary scholarship; Mike Lee just got a promotion with Macy's in Stamford, Conn.; and Kathy Battels is now attending Harvard's architecture school.

Some wedding news from Bill Stroro, who was best man for the marriage of Phil Schumm and Beth Beyer in St. Louis last May Phil and Beth now live and work in Chicago. Jim Bramson, Steve Carlotti, SteveHochman, Denise Audet, and Sandy Sloan were the '88s in attendance. Bill also attended the wedding of Dianne Menard to Nick Young in Keene, N.H. Jim and Kelly(Aldrich) Ouellette and Alison Fontaine were also there. Alison is engaged to one Peter Engel and they'll marry next spring, Bill says. Jim Ouellette is finishing his third year at U-Conn Med School, as is Bill; both have residency stints next.

Still journalizing with Agence France Presse in Hong Kong is Sarah Jackson, who sends word that Bob Victor was in Malaysia for the summer; I happen to know he's now at Harvard Law. Jessica Smith passed through Hong Kong en route from Kuwait and Jordan to Beijing, Sarah said.

Regular correspondent Steve Davidson checked in to say he's graduated from Georgetown with an M.B.A; he's now working on a project to build a memorial to national anthem author Francis Scott Key in Washington, and one of the project's main sponsors is K-Mart. "So I am about to embark on a blue-light-special spree across America," Steve said. Also from Steve: Simon Cordery has finished his Master's in biology and is studying law now at the University of York in England.

Lastly, in a margarita haze I ran into TomDeMerit and Mike Smith at a Jimmy Buffett concert just outside Boston in August. Both men were healthy, happy, and appropriately attired. Mike Remlinger went back to the San Francisco Giants at the end of the baseball season after a return trip to Triple-A Phoenix.

Next month: letters from Scott Sabol, Carol Ling '90 (who has news of several '88s), and updates on classmates Laura Kregenow and John Micheletto. Remember, you can FAX me at 603/224-8120, just be sure to put my name and "Sports Department" on the cover sheet.
