Dick Page reports that his life is as busy as ever, much of it with the College. "Being a trustee is a frustrating and rewarding experience, more so than I ever imagined." Dick sent along a clipping about Bob Clements. Bob has been named vice chairman and a member of the office of the chairman of Marsh & McLennan Companies, insurance and reinsurance brokerage. He will continue as chairman of the Marsh & McLennan Inc. insurance brokerage subsidiary.

Ann Hillman sent me a copy of an article in an unnamed publication: "The Vermont Lodging and Restaurant Association honored Herbert J. Hillman, owner and president of the Golden Eagle Resort in Stowe, as 1991 Vermont Innkeeper of the Year. In accepting the Bordon E. Avery Hospitality Award during the association's annual banquet . . . Mr. Hillman attributed his success to the support of so many people, including his wife an d business partner Ami Hillman, general manager and son-in-law Neil Van Dyke, and his suppliers and financial institutions."

Dick Barker sends notice from the latest issue of Dartmouth Medicine that "Dr. Edward Horton DMS '55 and chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, has received the American Diabetes Association's highest honor for service, the Banting Medal. He was national president of the ADA in 1990-91."

The September 1991 issue of Dartmouth Life carried a lead article about Baker Library receiving a rare transcript volume of Eugene O'Neill's play, The Fountain. "O'Neill created a historical work about Ponce de Leon's illfated search for the fountain of youth and produced it in New York in 1925. The show died a quick and unmourned death, running for only 24 performances at the Greenwich Village Theater." However, someone found and acquired the four drafts and compiled them into a single bound volume, later acquired by Bella C. Landauer, a New York collector. "Recently, the book was donated to Baker Library in memory of Mrs. Landauer by her grandchildren, Charles D. Landauer '56 and Judith Landauer McLaughlin, wife of former president David T. McLaughlin." From 1951 to 1960, Judy's grandmother donated many O'Neill artifacts to the library.

The Will to Excel": November 15-16 the College celebrated Dartmouth at Lincoln Center, New York City. The event served as the national capital gift campaign kickoff as the College recognized a group of alumni and their Dartmouth mentors in the inaugural awarding of the Presidential Medal for Outstanding Leadership and Achievement. Jonathan Moore, United States Coordinator for Refugee Affairs, was one of the initial recipients of the award. Dick Page and Steve Mullins are members of the campaign executive committee.
