We have two additions to the list of those who have attended all official reunions since graduation, Paul Lynch and '36's perennial cheerleader, Brint Schorer. Pete Fitzherbert says his records of the Fifth Reunion were a little hazy, which explains die two missing names. We trust the record is now complete.

Two of our '36 authors are still at work. The third edition of Daniel Doan's 50 More Hikes in New Hampshire was published last August. "First published in 1978, this nowclassic hiker's companion has been thoroughly updated throughout," says the Atlantic News (Hampton, N.H.). More recently, Budd Schulberg had an article in the October 27 Parade about heavyweight champ Evander Holyfield. In the semi-finals of the 1984 Olympic Games, Holyfield was deprived of a gold medal in his bout with New Zealander Kevin Barry. Holyfield knocked Barry down during a "break," a call not heard by either man, and so was disqualified. Instead of becoming disillusioned, Evander went on to become champion, and Budd paints an interesting picture of a fine fighter who is a warm and caring man outside the ring.

Another piece of writing, unpublished so far as I know, was sent to me by Ed Drechsel a report of the October Berkeley/Oakland fire. Ed and his wife, Elona, live in Berkeley, and he wrote a vivid account of the fire from the viewpoint of one personally involved. Fortunately, flames never got closer to their house than about 100 yards, and their rooftop sprinklers protected the house from flying, burning debris. However, they did evacuate their place at one point and they had many friends who suffered terrible losses. Also, the frustrations of dealing with unprepared and/or incompetent officials must have been devastating. Ed closed his report in these words: "Though we were untouched physically, the fire and its tragedies will remain with us."

On a happier note, early in November Ed and Helen Higbee entertained a group of 36ers at their warm and cozy hideaway on Barters Island, near Boothbay, Maine. Those present were Brad and Kay Chase, Phyllis England, Pete Fitzherbert, Dede Foster, Ross and Nancy Martindale, Bill Niss, and Tom and Jean Parker. The Higbees have had several such fall gatherings in recent years, and they have provided a welcome chance to get together with a few classmates before winter sets in.

Notes from all over... I called Walt Mosenthal a while ago, and during the course of our conversation he mentioned that he is ranked number three in the country in squash among those 75 or older—and then went on to minimize the whole thing. To one who has trouble hitting a ball of any kind it sounds like quite an accomplishment. Blake Hughes has a new address: 109 E. Bay, Apt. 2C, Charleston, S.C. And last, Fred Babcock's Bash is still scheduled for sometime in the week of St. Patrick's Day at his ranch in Punta Gorda, Fla. Stay tuned.
