Doug Brew figures he'll probably break one of his own records this June by attending his first Dartmouth reunion. Shortly before our 30th he was in Boston on sabbatical from teaching geology at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colo. However, he had to get back home before the reunion started.

Doug has visited Hanover from time to time and is not alarmed by the various controversies: "They're just part of what educational institutions are all about." Doug frequently runs into Will Coe, a professor of philosophy at Fort Lewis. "Apart from Will, there are very few Dartmouth types in town. I see Dartmouth people most frequently when one of my nieces gets married. All four of my brother Dave's daughters went to Dartmouth. So I attend mini-reunions about once a year and will continue until the daughters run out."

In April Bob Young will graduate with a B.A. in illustration from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Cal. "It's a complete retooling for me in a whole new career area, commercial art. Real practical, downto-earth training, and I love it." Bob had previously picked up master's degrees in journalism at Columbia and business at Harvard. His most recent occupation was doing freelance publication work for clients, mostly universities and hospitals. Bob's first wife died of cancer in 1988, "so at that point I went in some new directions. The last two years at art school have been revolutionary for me, a totally different way of thinking and using my brain. About as opposite from the Harvard Business School as you can get."

Bob gets together quite often with his old roommate, Pete Cooley. "We live in the same town. He's a lawyer in Los Angeles. He was married a couple of months before Sally and I got married in October 1990."

Brad and Libby Curtis are beginning to think odd-numbered years might not be too lucky in San Francisco. In 1989 they experienced the earthquake, and last October there was the East Bay fire that stopped about five miles from their house (and about 50 feet from their son's house). After 25 years with IBM and 10 years as the director of field marketing for an actuarial firm, Brad is planning to retire in April. At a minimum he will continue his wine consulting business and perhaps find some time to push his golf handicap even lower (currently 4). Brad thinks the odds are good he'll be back for reunion. After all, this is an even year.
