First of all, let me explain why you are finding the wrong name at the end of this column. Our beloved Class Secretary John Monagan is, as of this writing, in the hospital. Doctors put him there for heart surgery which he tolerated well and came through in good spirits. Just when he was all set to go home to Rosemary, complications set in and prevented his release. Rosemary says that John has shown progress and seems headed for a good recovery.

Hank and Helen Smith are just back from "three weeks of goofing off" on the Island of Vieques, off the coast of Puerto Rico. While there they saw Louise and Ted Okie, who had temporarily abandoned Darien, Conn., for their beautiful home in Vieques, high up on a small mountain. For the icing on the cake, the Okies were about to leave on a trip to Turkey. The Smiths also report that while in Florida over New Year's they had lunch and a good visit with Sam and Maddie Cunningham in Sarasota. All is well there.

Hank reports for Bequest and Trusts that the class now has 33 members of the Bartlett Tower society. Life Income Gifts so far this year amount to $74,800.00, and the total class gifts since graduation come to $2,244,406.00. That's for a class graduated in the depths of the Great Depression. We have good reason to be proud of this record.

Pete Hart was seen last winter as a consultant on Middle East Affairs in a television documentary. He has recendy given his diplomatic papers to the College, which has received them with grateful appreciation.

It's hard to keep a good man down. JohnRockwell was recently seen on the campus of William and Mary enjoying an art exhibit just two weeks after having undergone a knee replacement. This test-run was his first venture out, but you never would have known it from the smile on his face. John's latest good deed for Dartmouth is to sponsor the Book Awards given by the Hampton Roads (Virginia) Club to the three high schools in Williamsburg.

I have sad news of the death this past February of Ed Greiner. We send our condolences to Connie and family. An obituary will appear in a later issue.
